Environmental Assessments

Environmental Assessments

An Environmental Assessment (EA) or sometimes referred to as an Environmental Screening (ES) is an evaluation of the environment that will be affected by a proposed undertaking, such as a potential highway construction. This type of assessment is often confused with Environmental Site Assessments which is a service Cambium also provides. The Environmental Assessment Act (EAA) provides a framework for the protection, conservation and wise management of Ontario’s environment. The assessment takes into consideration the effects that the undertaking options may have on that environment, and the selection of a preferred approach with an identification of actions which may be necessary to prevent or mitigate the net effects.

Cambium can conduct small to large Individual or Class Environmental Assessments for a variety of developments including, greenfield, construction, roadwork, and mining for municipal, private, and individual clients. Our engineers, biologists, planners, and technical staff approach environmental assessments with careful consideration of the impacts that a proposal may have on the natural, social, cultural, and economic aspects of the community. Our field staff specializes in the identification and collection of relevant information, which will form the basis for technically sound, community-based solutions. We work with clients to collect relevant and accurate information, undertake careful analysis, and identify opportunities and constraints, all with careful attention to detail.

We ensure that the EA process is objective and conducted in a transparent manner and each step of the process is clearly documented. Working together with regulators, stakeholders and client representatives throughout the process provides efficiency and transparency for all involved.

We guide our clients through each stage of the process, with attention to detail and a thorough understanding of regulatory requirements and effective public participation programs. Public consultation is an integral part of an environmental assessment.  Cambium professionals work with clients to ensure that the public is engaged from the start of the project. We encourage public involvement through social media and use of smart phone apps, newsletters, website content and media relations.  The result is an informed public and a solid foundation for decision-making.

Through our sister company - Cambium Aboriginal - we are uniquely suited to facilitate consultations, and if applicable, partnerships with First Nation communities.
