
For decades municipalities have been responsible for managing all residential waste generated in the municipality, as well as a majority of commercial, industrial, and institutional waste, especially in smaller communities. With the upcoming changes to waste policy and regulation including the transition to IPR and plastic waste bans, it is more important than ever to understand your waste composition. The summer is busy, especially with all the program changes municipalities are managing. We have included a list of upcoming dates in case they are of interest to your team:
- September 30, 2021, the MSHW officially winds up and producers will be responsible for the designated hazardous materials starting October 1, 2021.
- September 30, 2021 – deadline to submit a report to RPRA on your municipal blue box program. If your municipality transitions in 2023 additional information will also be required by this date. Visit Blue Box Regulation – RPRA for more information
- January 1, 2022 – Excess soil notices will be required to be filed for projects designated under the regulation
