20 Years of Cambium: Honouring Our Roots, Embracing What’s Next

In April 2006, three bold entrepreneurs took a calculated risk that would shape the next two decades of their lives and hundreds of others. Upon acquiring the environmental consulting division of SGS Lakefield Research, they launched Cambium Environmental Inc. from a small office on Whittington Drive in Peterborough, supported by a close-knit team of just 9 people. From the start, collaboration, trust, and a shared sense of purpose defined how we worked.

Over the next 20 years, Cambium grew steadily in both size and capability. Moves to larger offices, the addition of dozens of new services, expanded laboratory facilities, and new locations across Peterborough, Barrie, Whitby, Kingston, and Ottawa reflected our evolution into a multi-service consulting and engineering firm. Along the way, our environmental practice deepened with ecological expertise, and in 2024, we were strengthened further by welcoming the Altech Environmental Consulting team.

Today, as we celebrate our 20th anniversary, we also mark an important new milestone: Cambium has joined the Englobe platform. This partnership builds on shared values; entrepreneurship, employee ownership, and a people-first culture.  As partner in the Englobe platform, Cambium has expanded its reach, resources, and ability to support client success across Ontario and beyond.

Above all, Cambium’s story is about its people. We thank the employees and partners who have been part of this journey and helped shape who we are today. With Englobe, we look ahead with confidence, honouring our roots while building an even stronger future together.
