The National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) program is a federal program enforced under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA). This program is designed to allow the public access to a database of air emissions information. NPRI reporting is required if - in the reporting year - employees worked in excess of 20,000 hours at a facility and various specific substances of concern were manufactured, processed or otherwise used at a specific concentration in quantities greater than a set threshold.
The Toxics Reduction Act (TRA) is designed to reduce the use and emission of toxic substances in manufacturing or other industrial processes in Canada. The TRA provides a framework for the management, conservation - and where possible - reduction of the use of toxic substances in Ontario. It has two main requirements: a toxic substance accounting report, and a toxic substance reduction plan.
Toxics Reduction Act (TRA) reporting is required if: in a reporting year employees worked in excess of 20,000 hours at a facility, the facility had to report to the NPRI program, and the facility’s NAICS code begins with 31, 32, 33, or 212. The TRA process requires that a company monitor and report on their usage of any toxic substances which are defined in the National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) annual gazette notice - and now include acetone.
Cambium’s Licensed Toxic Substance Reduction Planners are certified by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) formerly the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) to prepare, review, and certify Toxic Reduction Plans for submission to the MECP as per Ontario Regulation 455/09.
