Quality Control and Quality Assurance (QA/QC) on-site inspections are critical to verify that systems and applications of materials during construction are safe, built to code, and will last for generations to come. Recently, Cambium has been working with Peak Engineering on the new state-of-the-art Peterborough Humane Society Animal Care Centre.
Our most recent activity at the site has been testing the quality of concrete being poured for the floor slab of the new building.
Quality assurance offers peace of mind for contractors and community builders. When several cubic meters of concrete are being poured, you want to know that it will last. While on-site when concrete is being poured, our staff complete a series of tests to determine if the concrete meets project specifications for the specified application. Samples of concrete are then cast on site, cured, and brought back to our CCIL materials testing laboratory for compressive strength testing.
By performing these tests we confirm that the concrete will be strong enough to perform in the manner designed. Preventative QA measures ensure that work done on the job site is sound and meets regulation and quality standards.
Cambium was also involved during the very early stages of construction on this project. Some of the services provided included confirming bearing soil capacity for the building’s foundation; subgrade soil inspection; and granular compaction testing for the stormwater management pond, and the driveway and parking lots. Compaction testing confirms the design specifications have been met and minimal settlement may occur in the future. We then carried out concrete testing for the foundation of the building as well as grout and mortar testing for the structural masonry walls. Lastly, our team completed structural inspections during the erection of the steel structure to confirm that it was installed to applicable codes and standards.
Being a part of this important community project is an honour for Cambium and we are proud to support the creation of this new space with the Peterborough Humane Society and Peak Engineering.
