Geotechnical and Hydrogeological Investigations for Sanitary Sewer Design
In 2022, Cambium was retained by the City of Quinte West in Trenton, Ontario to complete Geotechnical and Hydrogeological investigations as part of an Environmental Assessment to provide a detailed understanding of the subsurface conditions to support the design of the sanitary sewer main.
Leveraging its local experience and knowledge of the area, Cambium worked with the City and its civil engineer firm to identify aspects of the originally proposed scope of work that could be refined to reduce costs and timing of the project. While drilling was met with several hurdles such as intensely fractured, flaggy bedrock, and the identification of turtle habitats, the project was completed on time.
Drilling in Quinte West, Ontario
Cambium completed comprehensive geotechnical, environmental, and hydrogeological investigations to support design and construction planning.
Geotechnical Services
Drilled 46 boreholes with Standard Penetration Tests and bedrock coring to assess soil and rock conditions.
Conducted advanced lab testing for soil strength, moisture, and corrosivity, plus rock core strength analysis.
Delivered a detailed report with bearing capacity evaluations and foundation recommendations.
Environmental Services
Collected and analyzed soil samples for metals, VOCs, PCBs, PHCs, and other contaminants under O.Reg. 406/19 and 153/04.
Prepared an Excess Soil Characterization Report for off-site reuse and disposal planning.
Hydrogeological Services
Assessed groundwater levels, flow conditions, and water quality.
Performed hydraulic conductivity tests and developed dewatering recommendations.
Provided a comprehensive hydrogeological report with findings and strategies.
