Exploring Future Options for Household Hazardous Waste Services

Regulatory Context:

  • Ontario Regulation O. Reg. 449/21 came into effect in January 2023, shifting hazardous waste responsibility to producers

Our Role:

  • Cambium supported Dufferin County by developing a business case to reassess its Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) services

What We Did:

  • Reviewed existing HHW operations

  • Evaluated service delivery options and program costs

Options Considered:

  • Event days, call‑in service, mobile and permanent depots, and shared services with neighbouring municipalities

Outcome:

  • Cambium recommended and received approval on a mobile depot in June 2023, pending further review of logistics, funding, and approvals
